2.  ST FRANCIS VILLAGE NEWS ARTICLE - Creatures of St Francis photographic competition

Being surrounded by such beauty and largely untapped wildlife, the St Francis Kromme Trust was inspired to launch a photographic competition encouraging people to capture our glorious fauna, flora and marine life, from a “creature” perspective.

The competition aims to raise awareness of the beauty and splendour of the Greater St Francis Area and focus on some of the positives we have rather than on the negatives currently plaguing us. By raising awareness, the Trust hopes to emphasize how much we have living right here on our doorstep to be cared for and protected from irresponsible decisions.

The competition is divided into two categories and entrants may be of any age. The first category is for original unedited photographs and the second is for digitally manipulated pictures. Should you wish to enter the latter you would need to send in your original too so that the judges can see how much “graphic” licence has been used. You can enter up to four photographs for only R40.

The competition opened on Heritage Day, 24 September and closes on 22 November with the judges announcing their final decision on 3 December.

There are prizes and fame up for grabs! Prizes in the form of cash (R500 for 1st prize in each category, R300 for 2nd , R200 for 3rd plus goodie bags). Fame in the form of a display in the Heritage Centre and MIG studios over the December holidays; coverage on the Kromme Trusts’ website, Facebook page; and various media – both printed and electronic.

Entries can be submitted online on the St Francis Kromme Trust website or dropped off at the Heritage Centre on Wednesday afternoons or Saturday mornings, alternatively to MIG (Moving Image Gallery – Rhapsody Centre) Monday to Friday 11am to 3pm.

A host of opportunities to grab your glory lies right before your eyes, just get out there, enjoy our paradise and “capture” one of our coastal treasures.
