News Updates today in St Francis Bay

1.  MILKWOOD SPEAKS NEWSPAPER ARTICLE - Sandriver Bridge Closed Monday 3rd December.

I have just been advised that the temporary causeway on the Sand River will be re-surfaced on Monday, 3rd
December.  It has now been decided to lay a proper tarred surface using a special machine like the ones used on motorways.  The bridge will be closed while this is being done. The work should be completed by 5
p.m. All people wishing to exit or enter St Francis Bay on Monday morning will have to do so prior to 8 a.m.
All businesses must advise their suppliers and staff.

Some form of temporary pedestrian crossing will be provided.  For more information please contact me on

2. ST FRANCIS CONNECT -
Jamie Loots of St Francis Bay

Jamie Loots 100% LOCAL HOME BRU!

Jamie Loots St Francis Bay

If you don’t know Jamie Loots, he is the 14 year old local boy who gets involved with everything that St Francis Bay has to offer.

Jamie loves sport, and, if possible any sport that involves a bicycle, swimming, paddling or pounding the local pavements.

You may have seen him whizzing around on his beloved Merida Bicycle called Matt wearing his Pennypinchers Cycling Shirt. Jamie enters many MTB cycling competitions, and although having a podium finish is great, just being in an event is enough for him. He recently “baby-sat” his Dad at the aptly named “race from hell – not for the fainthearted” Karoo to Coast MTB race.

Because he is so crazy about cycling, in his spare time you will see him working with his mentor Tyrone Kindness at our local cycle shop Custom Bikes. His reason for working there ……. he wants to pick up every trick of the trade from the expert.

When he isn’t cycling or at a cycle shop, Jamie’s next big local passion is being a trainee member of NSRI – Station 21. Here he has been exposed to rescue techniques, helicopter lifts, learning about manning the radio and most of all he was able to assist the community during our recent floods and fires.

He was recently nominated Nico Malan High School swimmer of the year for the second year running and came first in his category of U16 individual boys at the recent Pam Golding Quadrathlon.

Why is he so involved? “Well”, he says,” we live in a place where I can do all the sport I love right from my front door. St Francis Bay is a place where it is easy to get outside and do something active every day. We have some of the nicest cycling routes in SA, and there is nothing to beat a sunset ride on the Wild Side on a summer evening, we can swim in our canals, take a jog on the beach or paddle – surf or river – it’s all there all of the time for us to use”
